Carbon offsetting

The European Commission aims to reduce the CO2 footprint for this event and to offset its climate impact via green projects that deliver value for the environment.

The Commission will calculate the overall CO2 footprint of EMD 2020, taking into account not only the air travelling of participants to Cork, but also the CO2 emissions that will be produced from the use of venues, accommodation of the participants, local transport, catering, etc. Thus we will be able to purchase CO2 offsetting actions for the whole footprint of EMD via an established CO2 offsetting organisation (eg which plants trees at a large scale).

For getting a proper calculation we ask the participants who register a few questions about their travelling to Cork.

During EMD 2020 conference, when we will know exactly the footprint created, we will inform all the participants about the exact figures of CO2 we are going to offset. For this purpose we will not produce and distribute any promotional items this year at EMD; instead we will fund a project which offsets CO2 emissions.
